Research Funding Opportunities Chris Bonner, Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations Sponsor: American Foundation for Suicide prevention (AFSP) Amount Available: $100,000 over two years Grant Program: Distinguished Investigator Grants The grants are designed to support research by investigators at the academic rank of associate or full professor on suicide from a variety of disciplines, including psychiatry, medicine, psychology, genetics, epidemiology, neurobiology, sociology, nursing, health services administration and many others. Grants are not intended to support the development or implementation of prevention programs, educational programs, treatments, or other interventions that do not have a significant research component. These grants are intended to fund new directions and initiatives in suicide research rather than to supplement the recipient's existing research and their junior investigators. Amount Available: $486,000 over three years Grant Program: Doris Duke Clinical Scientist Development Award (CSDA) Each U.S. accredited, degree-granting institution may nominate up to two candidates in any disease area. For this purpose, an institution is defined as all affiliated graduate schools (including schools of public health), related hospitals and research institutes. Different divisions, departments, hospitals, centers or schools of the same degree-granting institution should confer to submit one slate of nominees. Deans of medical schools are encouraged to confer with schools of public health or other appropriate graduate schools within their institution.
