BMC's Cloud Storage Solution - Box.com
Box.com is Here!
Last summer, Boston Medical Center began rolling out access to Box.com, one of the premier cloud storage sites. Why Box.com? Not only is Box.com HIPAA-compliant, but it also has two big features that we think you'll enjoy: unlimited storage and no Box.com password. Unlimited storage is exactly that - no limit on the amount of data you store. No messages about insufficient space. Unlimited. And because we all have enough passwords to remember as it is, Box.com will automatically sign in when you're on the BMC network and, outside of BMC, you can use your BMC email username and password.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I share files with people outside of Boston Medical Center through Box?
Of course! The training covers how to invite outside collaborators and ensure you only share the files or folders you intend.
Do I need to put in a request to unblock Box.com similar to Google Drive or Dropbox?
No, Box.com is already unblocked for all BMC team members.
Will we be able to use the Box Sync App on my computer?
Yes. We’re still working out how we’ll deliver the application to BMC computers that require admin privileges. In the meantime, the application can be requested through Service Now.
Is there a Box.com phone app?
There is an app for Android, iPad, and iPhone. You need to sign in with your email username and password the first time, but then set up a PIN which you use for any subsequent use of the phone app (similar to McAfee EMM).
What’s the largest size file I can upload?
Fifteen gigabytes (15GB) is the largest a single file can be to be uploaded to Box.com.
Is Box.com replacing my network drive?
No. Box.com is being added to our existing storage options to help us share data securely. It’s a tool for team members to use if they have a need for it.
More information on setting up Box Sync and Box Mobile and accessing Box.com can be found on the InfoSec site here or through the BMC Service Desk at 617.414.4500.
